Incontinence – 1 of 3 women experience this!! This is NOT normal! Many women don’t travel outside their safety zone because they don’t know where bathrooms are. Even women in their 20s and 30s leak when they sneeze or laugh. So, age is not the only factor. Get a bad cold and some women lose complete control. Approximately 1 in 10 men experience unexpected leaks in their lifetime, so read on fellas! Incontinence is the #1 reason for admittance into Long-Term care facilities.
Pregnancy and childbirth are definitely contributing factors. Smokers cough can exacerbate the situation. Alcohol, fizzy pop, coffee, tea, and other caffeinated beverages don't help either. Stress, surgery, lack of muscle control, medications, hormonal changes, infections, inflammation, excess body weight, constipation, spastic colon, digestive problems, and even laughing can cause an unexpected leak.
Bladder Talk – Unexpected Leaks Your body absorbs liquid from the food and drink you ingest. Your kidneys filter waste from your body fluids and produce urine. Urine trickles from the kidneys to the bladder, which slowly expands the bladder. When the bladder collects about 6-8 ounces, the signal comes on that you need to relieve yourself. In the bathroom, the large bladder muscle squeezes and contracts. At the same time the pelvic floor muscles that surround the urethra relax and let the urine pass. Most people empty their bladders from 4 to 8 times daily.

So, what can be done Naturally to Prevent or Reduce the number of leaks? 1) Review Freedom From Your Leaky Bladder! Get your life back!! CLICK HERE TO ORDER. 2) In the bathroom - Sit ‘n’ relax. Let your urinary system do its thing. Do not push. 3) Strengthen the pelvic floor with Kegel exercises, particularly if organ prolapse or stress is causing leakage. Tighten (for 4 seconds) and then relax (for 4 seconds) the PC muscles. To make sure you're using the right muscles, the next time you're on the toilet, try to stop the flow of urine midstream. If you can stop the flow, then you're using those muscles. Build up to 4 sets of 15 with 2 minutes in between sets, holding for 10 seconds. You may begin to feel the benefit of exercises after just a few weeks. 4) Drink 6-8 glasses of purified, pH adjusted water daily. Drinking less will make your urine more concentrated which will irritate your bladder, causing you to urinate more often. 5) What you eat affects your bladder. Grapefruit, tomatoes, orange juice, caffeinated beverages, soda pop, alcohol, soy sauce can be irritating. Olive oil, bananas, cherries, peaches, poultry, fish, meat, garlic and onions are thought to be helpful. 6) Lose weight. Very important. We talked about this in June’s newsletter. 7) Acupuncture can correct imbalances. Urinary incontinence is thought to result from a deficiency of Chi (energy) in the kidney. 8) BioFeedback can help people regain control over the muscles that regulate urination. 9) Herbs such as stems of horsetail, buchu, saw palmetto, corn silk, plantain, nettles, and St. John's wort can be helpful. 10) Homeopathic prescriptions can stimulate the body's performance.
